When the school bell rings at the end of the day, many of Wayne County's children face truly daunting perils – pressures to take part in behaviors and activities that can seriously dismantle their lives and ruin their futures. Having the courage and right judgment to say no to gangs, drugs and other high-risk actions does not come easily. That is why, for the last 57 years, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Wayne County has provided a safe haven for children during those vulnerable late afternoon and early evening hours.
Our young people urgently need positive adult influences to help them feel valued. The trained, caring staff help youth make the right life choices and decisions – and provide the strong foundation they will need for the future.
Every day the Boys & Girls Clubs of Wayne County opens the door to a great future for youth in our community's most vulnerable neighborhoods. At the Boys & Girls Clubs, they have a safe place to learn and grow, establish ongoing relationships, and participate in life-enhancing programs and experiences.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Wayne County have four locations. The flagship site is on South L Street, one is in Fairview Elementary school, another is in Hagerstown Elementary School, and the fourth is in Central United Methodist Church. The Club is dedicated to ensuring that our community's disadvantaged youngsters have greater access to quality programs and services that will enhance their lives and shape their futures.
More than 5,000 boys and girls are taking advantage of the programs, activities and services provided by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Wayne County annually. They benefit from trained, caring, professional staff and volunteers who help young people take control of their lives, envision productive futures and achieve their goals.
We increased our average daily attendance by 13.6% over a year ago. Every day our kids are offered over 30 different programs from our catalog of over 70 activities. Though all our programs impact our students, our first priority is education. Over 185 children participated in an intense tutoring program called Indiana Kids; they have increased an average of 50.3% in reading and 56.7% math.
We are seeing a huge increase in the needs of families and young people this year which the services of the Club can meet with additional financial support. I would like you to consider making a generous financial investment to enable the Club to meet these increased challenges. Your gift will help support all of the vital programs and activities at the Club.
I sincerely hope you will join us in investing in the future of our children.
